ALLT LJUS PÅ MIG
Rimmnersvallen, Uddevalla, 2024
Material: Bricks & Led lights
Public art commission for Uddevalla kommun, Sweden.
When I was commissioned to create a new artwork for Rimnersområdet I questioned myself what and how my practice related to sports. It was quite surprised when I realised that I was competing against other artist on who's idea was best suited for this place. After all, professional sports and public art have several (to me unexpected) common denominators since they take place in public, ready to be judged and criticized. A risky and emotional game, seasoned with hate love.
Allt ljus på mig (all lights on me) is situated in the middle of an area dedicated to the sports, the gestalt bear traces of the activities happening there. Running tracks, a target board and ripples from a dive can all be seen with a bit of fantasy. Lights are projected up into the sky from the bullseye, but it can't be seen until someone steps into the center. The body will be lit up as the lights finally reflects on someone.
You are the centre of everything, all lights on you! A strange sensation that can be terrifying or perhaps everything you ever wanted.
Big thanks to Sten & Anläggning i Fyrishof for the stunning craftsmanship of putting all the bricks exactly how I wanted. Bara Mineraler for the bricks and Werner Nystrand for the fantastic photos.
